A game token is a currency inside an economy the developer designs. That makes it the one crypto category where the issuer can, and must, actively manage supply — through what the game hands out and what it takes back.
The failure mode is well documented by now: rewards that scale with players, sinks that do not, and a currency that inflates until the reward is worth less than the time it costs. Play-to-earn projects that collapsed nearly all collapsed this way.
The projects that persisted tend to share a trait: the game is worth playing without the token. That is a low bar, and it removed most of the category.
