Where it came from
Injective was started in 2018 by Eric Chen and Albert Chon and was incubated by Binance Labs. It was built for one industry rather than for general use: finance, and specifically the kind of order-book trading that automated market makers handle badly.
What it does
Injective is a Cosmos-based chain with an order book built into the protocol, so applications share one pool of liquidity instead of each fragmenting it. It supports derivatives and prediction markets natively rather than as contracts layered on top.
What moves the price
- The burn auction. A share of fees collected across applications is pooled weekly and auctioned, and the INJ used to win it is destroyed, so protocol revenue converts directly into supply reduction.
- Trading volume on applications using the shared order book, which is what fills that auction.
- Staking, which bonds tokens for an unbonding period and secures the chain.
- Vesting from the original allocation and ecosystem funds.
