Where it came from
David Rusu and colleagues began working on Rocket Pool in 2016, before Ethereum's proof-of-stake design was finalised, which makes it one of the longest-running projects in the sector. It launched in 2021 with a deliberately harder design than its competitors: anyone can run a validator, not just approved operators.
What it does
Rocket Pool is permissionless liquid staking. A node operator supplies part of the stake and a bond in RPL, and the pool supplies the rest from depositors. That bond is what makes an open operator set safe: an operator who misbehaves loses their own collateral first.
What moves the price
- The RPL bond requirement, which forces every new node operator to buy and lock the token, so operator growth creates direct demand.
- The number of node operators, which is both the decentralisation claim and the growth constraint, since each one must supply capital.
- Ethereum's staking yield, which sets what the whole category earns.
- Competition from operator-permissioned protocols, which scale faster precisely because they do not require this bond.

Common questions
What is Rocket Pool (RPL)?
David Rusu and colleagues began working on Rocket Pool in 2016, before Ethereum's proof-of-stake design was finalised, which makes it one of the longest-running projects in the sector. It launched in 2021 with a deliberately harder design than its competitors: anyone can run a validator, not just approved operators. Rocket Pool is permissionless liquid staking. A node operator supplies part of the stake and a bond in RPL, and the pool supplies the rest from depositors. That bond is what makes an open operator set safe: an operator who misbehaves loses their own collateral first.
How volatile is Rocket Pool?
Over the last 30 days, Rocket Pool has an annualised volatility of 0.8 %. The median daily move across the last 90 days is 1.5 %. Both describe what the price has done, not what it will do.
What is the biggest drawdown Rocket Pool has had?
Across the daily closes on file, the deepest peak-to-trough fall is 97 %, from 2023-07-13 to 2026-06-24. The highest close in that window is $38.13 on 2023-07-13.
What moves the Rocket Pool price?
The RPL bond requirement, which forces every new node operator to buy and lock the token, so operator growth creates direct demand. The number of node operators, which is both the decentralisation claim and the growth constraint, since each one must supply capital. Ethereum's staking yield, which sets what the whole category earns. Competition from operator-permissioned protocols, which scale faster precisely because they do not require this bond.
What is the market cap of Rocket Pool?
Rocket Pool has a market capitalisation of $47.9 million, ranking 400th by market cap. The figure updates with the market data on this page.
